Because without drinkability, wine is nothing. Or almost.
The primary idea behind a wine should always be its propensity to tempt the senses with its aromas and structure in the mouth. To be drunk easily without necessarily being a simple wine. Yes, there are wines to keep which require time to reach their fullness, but we are still talking about 3 to 5% of world production. In addition, the vast majority of wines should be drunk within 2 to 3 years of being marketed. Here are two thirst-quenching wines tasted recently which perfectly illustrate this idea of drinkability.
Drink less. Drink better.
Bodegas Moraza, Soplar 2018, Rioja, Spain $ 23.60 – Code SAQ 14713378 – 12% – 1 g / L – Organic
In the spirit of the wines produced by Olivier Rivière, this rioja is made from a blend of lledoner pelut – called “grenache pelut” because of the hairs on its leaves and which is very resistant to drought – and tempranillo. In addition to its retro label where the red is reminiscent of the Communist posters of the USSR, the wine stands out with its pale and luminous color. The nose requires good ventilation to get rid of its reduction odors and fully express itself on tones of strawberry, plum and spices. In the mouth, we can smell the nourished fruitiness, it is easy to drink with very little tannins and a spicy impression on the finish. Serve cool enough (45 minutes in the fridge) with burgers or pizza.
★★ 1⁄2 $$ 1⁄2
Thibault Liger-Belair, Les Deux Terres 2018, Bourgogne, France $ 29.60 – Code SAQ 14556190 – 13% – 2.1 g / L
Excellent producer based in Nuits-Saint-Georges who always has Beaujolais wines at heart, hence the idea of this “passetoutgrain” cuvée which blends 85% Gamay from the Chénas, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent vintages. with 15% Pinot Noir mainly from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits. In the glass, we guess an immediately charming nose with its notes of cherries, herbs and a ferruginous touch. In the mouth, the wine is both light and velvety with a mellowness that fills the palate. Nice length and lots of freshness. A tasty thirst-quenching wine that will work wonders with grilled chicken.
