In this case, five soldiers from Cross (the regional operational center for surveillance and rescue) have already been indicted since Thursday, May 25 for the same reason of “no assistance to the person in danger”. These two soldiers were on board the “Flamant”, the patrol boat of the French navy. The building was about twenty kilometers from the canoe containing the migrants and did not intervene. On November 24, 2021, 27 migrants – mostly Iraqi Kurds aged between seven and 46 – died in the sinking of a boat in the English Channel. The soldiers are accused of having failed in their rescue mission that night.

In July 2022, ten people suspected of being involved in an illegal immigration network linked to this case have already been indicted. According to a source close to the investigation, these individuals are suspected of being the smugglers, drivers and lodgers, in particular of an Afghan illegal immigration network, linked in the chartering of the makeshift boat, which sank in the Channel.
