Two men aged 19 and 24 were indicted and imprisoned on Sunday October 13 for the fire of four police vehicles in Cavaillon (Vaucluse), where an anti-drug operation was then underway, the Avignon prosecutor announced on Monday. The cars, parked in front of the city’s police station, were completely destroyed by arson.
The two suspects, from the Paris region, were arrested on October 9, the same day of the fire. The investigation “made it possible to establish links between the arson and several arrests for drug trafficking carried out between October 1 and 9 in the same town of Cavaillon”specified prosecutor Florence Galtier in a press release.
A judicial investigation was opened on Sunday into charges of “destruction by means dangerous to people, by an organized gang, to the detriment of a holder of public authority” and “degradation by means dangerous to people committed by an organized gang”. No injuries were reported after these fires, but “the facades of the police station and a neighboring real estate agency have been seriously damaged”specifies the press release.
