Two people, a 20-year-old and an 8-year-old child, were killed Friday in a ramming attack on a bus stop in East Jerusalem, according to reports from police and emergency services.
The attack, whose author was “neutralized”, also injured five people, two of them in serious condition, according to the police.
The tragedy occurred on the first day of the Israeli weekend in Ramot, a Jewish settlement district in the eastern part – annexed by Israel – of the Holy City.
It is a “terrorist attack with a ram car”, indicated a spokesperson for the police, specifying that “the suspect” had been “neutralized”.
Behind a large police device prohibiting access to the premises, an AFP journalist saw a blue car immobilized on the sidewalk at the level of a bus shelter. Among nearby debris, a doll.
Many rescuers were active on the scene, overflown by a helicopter and a drone.
Dozens of onlookers, including many children, mostly wearing the black and white dress of ultra-Orthodox Jews were gathered around the security cordon.
Further details will follow.
