Two Canadian authors shortlisted for the Dublin Literary Award

(Dublin) Canadian authors Suzette Mayr and Emma Donoghue have been shortlisted for the prestigious Dublin Literary Award.


The prize – billed as the largest grant for a single work of English-language fiction – is worth 100,000 euros, or approximately $150,000 Canadian.

Mme Mayr was on the list for his novel The Sleeping Car Porterwho won the $100,000 Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2022.

The book follows a queer black man who works as a train porter and caters to the needs of passengers at night.

Mme Donoghue was selected for her book Havenwhich tells the story of an Irish scholar priest from the 7the century in his quest to found a monastery.

The other four finalists are: Old God’s Time by Sebastian Barry, from Ireland, If I Survive You by Jonathan Escoffery, from the United States, Solenoid by Mircea Cărtărescu, from Romania, and translated by Sean Cotter, as well as Praiseworthy by Alexis Wright, from Australia.
