A step back from the last presidential election. Participation in the first round of the presidential election, Sunday April 10, stood at 25.48% at noon, three points less than in 2017 (28.54%) and than in 2012 (28.3 %), according to data from the Ministry of the Interior.

Turnout at noon was however four points higher than that of April 21, 2002 (21.39%), a record year for abstention in a first round of presidential elections.

The five departments with the most votes at noon are Saône-et-Loire (39.05%), Gers (37.71%), Ardèche (35.55%), Dordogne (34.63%) and Vaucluse (32.64%).

On the contrary, the five departments which have mobilized the least are in Ile-de-France: these are Seine-Saint-Denis (14.71%), Paris (15.34%), Val-d Oise (18.82%), Essonne (18.89%) and Hauts-de-Seine (19.13%).

Turnout in the June 2021 regional elections, historically low, stood at 12.22% by noon. In the first round of the 2020 municipal elections, organized as the first wave of Covid-19 exploded in France, turnout had reached 18.38%.
