TRUE OR FAKE. Did Ségolène Royal deny certain war crimes perpetrated in Ukraine?

Ségolène Royal expresses doubts about certain war crimes committed in Ukraine, in particular on BFMTV, where the former minister returns to the bombing of the Mariupol maternity hospital. “If there had been the slightest victim, the slightest baby with blood, in the age of cell phones, we would have had them”, she says. This bombardment, like many other war crimes, was documented by journalists on the spot, testimonies as well as photos and videos. The reaction of Ségolène Royal therefore caused an outcry among politicians and on social networks.

The former presidential candidate has also received support from the far right of the political spectrum, including Gilbert Collard, Florian Philippot and Éric Zemmour. The release was also picked up in Russia, by state broadcaster Pervy Kanal, with a completely exaggerated and false translation that makes it say it’s for kyiv’s propaganda ban out of fear. Since then, Ségolène Royal has apologized to the victims of the war and assures that she never wanted to deny the crimes in Ukraine.
