Truce over, the snow is coming everywhere

After Abitibi and Gaspésie, several regions of Eastern Quebec were able to observe their first white carpet of the year this morning and it is only a matter of days before a good part of the province is also buried under the snow.

A few days after still warm days when images swarmed on social networks of Quebecers enjoying the mild autumn on their terrace, Mother Nature will not be too forgiving for the transition to winter.

Barbecues will have to be quickly replaced by shovels and carports this week.

After the rain on Sunday, a white carpet was to cover the greater region of Quebec, Trois-Rivières and Sherbrooke today, according to forecasts.

And these three regions should see snow again during the week.

A few centimeters had also already fallen, Sunday morning, in Outaouais, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, in the Laurentians and in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.

Significant falls

In the Bas-Saint-Laurent and on the North Shore, the first snowfall that started yesterday and which will stretch throughout the day today should bring a total accumulation of about fifteen centimeters.

However, it is the Gaspé Peninsula that risks winning the prize, while a winter storm warning is in effect, particularly for the Murdochville and Gaspé sectors.

Up to 40 centimeters of snow are expected in the region, enough to make you want to put up the Christmas decorations before December 1 has even arrived.

A little everywhere in Quebec, however, the week promises to be gray, with mercury hovering around the freezing point during the day, and a few degrees below zero at night.

One broadside does not wait for the other

For Frédéric Dubuis, meteorologist at Environment Canada, although these snowfalls are the first of the year, this fresh white carpet is here to stay.

A second snowfall is expected across the province in the middle of the week and will stretch over a few days.

“A system from Colorado will make its entry overnight from tomorrow to Wednesday, in western Quebec, and will make its way to the North Shore on Thursday,” explains Mr. Dubuis, specifying however that the expected snowfall amounts are not yet clear.

This is when winter will officially enter Montreal territory, leaving a little blowing snow in its wake.
