Mohamad Al Ballouz appeared by telephone from his hospital bed Monday afternoon at the Longueuil courthouse.

He faces two counts of premeditated murder in connection with the deaths of his two children, aged 2 and 5. He was also charged with the second degree murder of his partner Synthia Bussières. The 38-year-old victim was the mother of two children. She was allegedly stabbed several times.

According to our information, the children were drowned. They were pronounced dead at the scene after attempts at resuscitation.

“Important witness”

Mohamad Al Ballouz is also accused of having caused the fire which occurred in their accommodation last Sunday.

It was the triggering of a fire alarm that had led the firefighters to intervene in the couple’s accommodation, located in a condo building on boulevard du Saint-Laurent, on the banks of the river.

According to our sources, the fire was minor and would not be the cause of death.

According to our information, the man was in the bedroom with his two children when the firefighters arrived. It was in this room that the fire started. The accused tried to take his own life by drinking a large dose of windshield washer fluid, first responders found.

He was therefore transported to the hospital, where the police questioned him.

Mohamad Al Ballouz has no criminal history. “The residence of the couple and [ses] children was not a place of interest known to the SPAL police officers. The suspect was not known to our services, ”said the police force in a press release.

The 36-year-old man was first considered by the police as an “important witness”, before becoming the main suspect in this triple homicide.

The Longueuil agglomeration fire safety service (SSIAL) alerted the police after discovering the three bodies on Sunday around 1 a.m.
