Pascal Élie was my neighbor for 10 years. Our houses shared a wall. I saw her two boys grow up. One of his sons and one of mine played hockey together. Our families saw each other constantly at the rink. We shared many meals together and the subject was invariably politics: federal, provincial and municipal.
I really liked his caricatures in The duty : fun and sharp without ever being cruel. A gentle, refined man with great intelligence, who made us laugh. He had also worked at the Gazette from Montreal. He spoke both languages and he understood both cultures.
A neurodegenerative disease prevailed in October. I had seen him lose weight for 10 years and gradually lose control of his body, but without ever complaining. Brave and dignified until the end.
Rest in peace, dear Pascal, and condolences to your beautiful family.
