The mother-in-law of the girl from Granby exchanged about fifteen texts with a man called “Casablanca”, a few hours before the little victim was found unconscious. The woman, who is charged with second degree murder and forcible confinement, writes that she “properly tied up” the child who was then seven years old.
Francis Boily-Martineau, investigator at the technological division of the Sûreté du Québec, revealed part of the contents of the accused’s cell phone. He made a list of calls and texts that were received and sent from the device on April 29, 2019.
” [La victime] is coming out again. She broke away, ”the accused first wrote at 8:12 am. The child had tried to get out of his bedroom window four times in the hours leading up to the tragedy, the accused’s son said earlier this week.
“Since you don’t call me back, I tied her up the right way,” she adds, two minutes later.
Forty-five minutes go by and the accused connects a series of text messages one after the other. “She’s very attached and she’s doing her big number.” “She screams, she cries, she does all her time, she tries to get up, but she can’t”. “She’s never going to stop”.
Then, the accused shows signs of impatience in messages riddled with church words.
Investigator Francis Boily-Martineau presented a “selection” of text messages. He also said that there is a possibility that some messages were erased by the accused and not recovered by the police.
The mother-in-law of the girl from Granby, now 38, is suspected of having wrapped the victim in duct tape.
Chemist André Tremblay will be next to take the witness stand on Thursday.
