Travel, ABBA | The duty

It’s confirmed: hens have teeth. Almost 40 years after the release of The Visitors, ABBA reappears with this 9e album which, as in the good old days, highlights the voices of Agnetha Fältskog and Frida Lyngstad performing compositions by their exes Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. The latter mainly ensures the realization of Trip, which sounds as if four decades have not passed, and that is the great merit of this comeback: not succumbing to the pop trends of the hour. It sounds like classic ABBA, the sumptuous arrangements of violins, the sounds of synthesizers, the sometimes disco, if not pop-rock rhythms – with a touch of schlager on Just a Notion, song composed for the album Do you want (1979). If ABBA sings themes of her age – there’s a lot about seeing the grandchildren grow up, like on the Christmas song Little Things – and takes a look at his journey, musical and intimate, he does not quite manage to recreate the bombs of yesteryear (of course Don’t shut me Down), preferring uneven ballads to catchy songs.
