Trafficking in bicycles, electric bikes and scooters has been dismantled in the Toulouse metropolitan area, said the Toulouse public prosecutor in a press release this Friday, October 6. Nine people are indicted for “aggravated theft by an organized gang” and “concealment by an organized gang”.
Among the suspects, five people are placed in pre-trial detention, indicted for the theft of bicycles and scooters. The other four are placed under judicial supervision for receiving stolen goods. They all dispute their involvement.
Bikes resold in Toulouse or Algeria
They are suspected of having set up a “structured network” with thieves on one side and fences on the other since February 2022 in the Toulouse metropolitan area. Day and night, the suspects stole bicycles or scooters to resell them in Toulouse or Algeria.
Around forty victims have been identified. But the prosecution estimates “several hundred” the number of vehicles stolen. The scooters were sold for between 50 and 80 euros each and the bikes for between 150 and 800 euros.
The investigation continues to try to identify other suspects, specifies the public prosecutor of Toulouse.
