After two years greatly impacted by the health crisis, theLa Rochelle-Ile de Ré Airport
announces a resumption of air traffic, which represents 77% of 2019 traffic over the first nine months of 2022. That is 158,917 passengers against 206,572 at the end of September 2019. Symbol of this “relaunch”, the two months of July and August accounted for 90% of summer traffic in 2019 (83,159 passengers compared to 92,954).
Among the highlights, the La Rochelle platform scores “very good fillings on domestic lines”, “a British market still buoyant” or “the return of European customers”. The proof in numbers.
→ Very good fills on domestic lines
Launched in May 2022, the La Rochelle-Marseille line has been a resounding success, with 13,915 passengers transported over five months and an occupancy rate of 89%. Following these results, Ryanair has decided to maintain the connection for the winter.
Operated from June 27 to September 4, 2022, the La Rochelle-Nice line has an equivalent load factor and carried 10,644 passengers.
→ The British market remains the 1st market in volume with more than 65,000 passengers transported over the first nine months of the year. London-Stansted remains the first line in volume with 32,568 passengers transported. This market, impacted by Brexit, Covid and high inflation, is showing a drop in occupancy rates.
→ The return of European customers on the Dublin, Geneva and Brussels-Charleroi lines.
- Dublin: 23,086 passengers transported over six months and an occupancy rate of 76%
- Geneva: 8,818 passengers transported in two months and an occupancy rate of 83%
- Brussels-Charleroi: 8,949 passengers transported over six months and an occupancy rate of 74%
→ Porto’s “Export” line continues to seducewith 17,753 passengers transported over the first nine months of the year and an occupancy rate of 89%.
The very good results on the domestic (Marseille and Nice) and “Export” (Porto) lines, a catchment area of more than 700,000 inhabitants within a radius of one hour around La Rochelle, as well as the growing difficulties in accessing Bordeaux and Nantes airports with saturated road traffic, reveal a growing local potential.
