Netherlands: towards a victory for the far right in the legislative elections

The Party for Freedom (far right) won the legislative elections in the Netherlands.
The number of seats of the Party for Freedom (PVV) has reportedly doubled since the last legislative election in 2021. The PVV, led by Geert Wilders, announces a sharp shift to the right for the country. The program: a referendum on whether or not to remain in the European Union, the freezing of asylum and a more restrictive immigration policy. “I am very grateful, the Dutch voters are sending us a signal: things must change. Our idea that the Dutch must come first has resonated with many people”confides Geert Wilders.
Form a majority coalition
A victory hailed by other European far-right leaders, such as Marine Le Pen. “Congratulations to Geert Wilders and the PVV for their spectacular performance in the legislative elections which confirms the growing attachment to the defense of national identities”, she wrote on X. The parties must now form a majority coalition. The process can last several months. Especially since the leaders of the three other major parties have announced their refusal to govern with the PVV.
