Tour of Italy | Magdeleine Vallières-Mill ends the Giro on the right foot

Magdeleine Vallières-Mill (EF-Oatly-Cannondale) crossed the finish line of the eighth and final stage of the Giro d’Italia at 11e rank on Sunday with a delay of 38 seconds on the winner, the Mauritian Kimberley Le Court (AG Insurance – Soudal).


“The stage still went well. I’m happy with how I felt, I tried hard to escape, but it didn’t work today [dimanche]”I worked hard in the last two climbs to get back into the game,” Vallières-Mill said in an interview with Sportcom.

The end of the Giro was not easy for the Quebecer’s teammates. Affected by the heat, Clara Émond was forced to abandon the seventh stage on Saturday, she who held the best climber’s jersey at the time. New Zealander Kim Cazdow and Italian Letizia Borghesi also fell in combat on Saturday while Dutchwoman Nina Kessler did not start the sixth stage.

Vallières-Mill and the German Clara Koppenburg are therefore the only two members of EF-Oatly-Cannondale to have completed the eight stages of the Giro d’Italia.

It was the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl – Trek), fourth on Sunday, who took the top honours of the Giro, winning by 21 seconds over the Belgian Lotte Kopecky of the SD Worx – Protime team.

Magdeleine Vallières-Mill finished in 38th placee final ranking rank.

“It’s a Giro that we’ll remember for a long time, especially with Clara’s victory in the fourth stage. It’s going to remain a very good memory for the rest of my life. We had a very good Giro, I’m quite satisfied overall,” she added.
