This 7th stage of the Tour de France women 2022 between Sélestat and Markstein, 127 km long, will see the first passes of the Vosges follow one another. This stage, which will be played on July 30, promises entertainment, especially on theon the ridge road. On the program are three passes, the steepest of which is the Petit Ballon (9.3km at 8.1%). Then follow the Platzerwasel and the Grand Ballon (13.5km at 6.5%).
The stage profile
After a gentle start from the plain of Alsace, and the town of Sélestat, which has never hosted the Tour de France, head for the Vosges passes. The runners will chain three difficult passes: the Petit Ballon, the Platzerwasel and the Grand Ballon. The ridge road will then take them to the Markstein. A stage where climbers will have the best part.
The first pass to cross will be that of the Petit Ballon. Nearly ten kilometers with an 8.1% slope to finish.
One of the difficulties of this 7th stage is the long climb of 13.5km to the Grand Ballon with a 6.5% rating. It will then be necessary to descend along the ridge road and its impressive panorama to reach the Markstein which culminates at 1,183 meters.
For Marion Rousse, the director of the Tour de France Women, this physiognomy of the stage will undoubtedly crown a climber in “a succession which should establish a very clear hierarchy”.
The Women’s Tour de France takes place over eight stages, from July 24 to 31, for a total of 1,029 km of racing. The route will cross three regions (Île-de-France, Grand Est and Bourgogne-France-Comté) and 11 departments. Four flat stages, two hilly stages and two mountain stages with an altitude finish at La Super Planche des Belles Filles.
Twenty-four teams, including five French, have been selected for this first edition.
