After the Paris loop of the first stage, the women’s Tour de France remains in Ile-de-France for its 2nd stage, Monday July 26. The runners will cover 135 km in Seine-et-Marne, from Meaux to Provins. A flat step, but “not without difficulty” promises the race director, Marion Rousse, who warns: “The stage may well surprise.”
The peloton will start at 12:55 p.m. from the Museum of the Great War in Meaux. As always, the Tour mixes history and heritage with sporting competition since the runners will also pass near the castles of Vaux-le-Vicomte and Blandy-les-Tours.
At km 115.7, the competitors will first cross the finish line in Provins, before setting off again for just under 20 km. “Crossing the Brie and the arrival on a false rising flat will require punch” assure the organizers.
It will be the first time that the city of arrival, Provins, hosts a stage of the Tour de France. Why not for a sprint finish ?
The first women’s Tour de France takes place on eight stages of 1,029 km in total, from July 24 to 31. The runners cross three regions (Île-de-France, Grand Est and Bourgogne-France-Comté) and 11 departments. Four flat stages, two hilly stages and two mountain stages with an altitude finish at La Super Planche des Belles Filles. Twenty-four cycling teams, including five French, are involved.
