This is the last chance for the Tour de France riders to progress in the general classification before arriving on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday. The 20th stage of the big loop is played this Saturday July 23 in the north of the Lot. This is an individual time trial on a course of 40.7 kilometers between Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour. The two Lot municipalities are stopover towns for the first time. France Bleu Occitanie announced it to you exclusively on September 30th. The medieval city had impressed the director of the Tour Christian Prudhomme, during the Route d’Occitanie 2020. Benoît Cosnefroy had won there as a puncher.
On the eve of the arrival of this 109th edition of the Tour on the Champs-Elysées, barring last-minute surprises, this time trial should establish the hierarchy in the general classification. After the victory of Christophe Laporte, the first French victory in the Tour de France 2022, this Friday in Cahors, the yellow jersey is still on the shoulders of Dane Jonas Vingegaard.
In the general classification, Jonas Vingegaard is three minutes and 21 seconds ahead of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, second overall. Geraint Thomas completes the podium. The Briton is 8 minutes behind on the yellow jersey. The first Frenchman is David Gaudu, in fourth position at 11’05” from Jonas Vingegaard.
The director of the Tour de France talks about this last stage, “and then a last time trial where everything can be playedwe saw it recently, two years ago, with La-Planche-des-Belles-Filles obviously and Pogacar, and a 41 km time trial to climb to the splendid promontory of Rocamadour before the arrival in Paris, on the Champs-Élysées.”
