Toulouse was crowned French Ligue 2 champion on Saturday thanks to its victory over Nîmes (2-1) while AC Ajaccio, forced to share points (1-1) in Grenoble, saw Auxerre, winner in Le Havre (2 -1), return to just one point from his second place directly qualifying for the L1.
The Ajacciens were three points ahead of Auxerre before this 37th day. Like Toulouse, they were led 1-0, in Grenoble, and came back to 1-1. But they are only one point ahead of AJA, who won in Normandy thanks to the 16th goal, as subtle as it is crucial, from their regular “goleador”, Gaëtan Charbonnier.
The Corsicans will therefore play their future at home, next week, against the new champion. The Toulouse leader was surprised last Monday in Rodez (1-0), which had postponed the coronation party. Saturday at the Stadium, Téfécé was led 1-0 but rectified the situation, proving that he was indeed the new L2 champion, at home, and this despite the exploits of the young goalkeeper of the Nîmes cages, Lucas Dias.
Paris FC, which had lost the possibility of going directly to L1 last weekend, has recovered well. The Parisians have indeed won 2-1 in Amiens and are the other good operation of the evening because they go back to 4th place, just ahead of Sochaux.
The Sochaliens could hope to overtake AJA by winning at Valenciennes, but against all odds it was VA who ensured their maintenance, winning 1-0. And Auxerre is therefore certain to finish in the Top 3, with one game less to play in the accession play-offs.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the standings, Quevilly-Rouen, due to a 2-0 defeat in the derby against Caen, remains a play-off, three points behind Rodez and with an unfavorable goal difference (-19 for Quevilly, -12 for Rodez). Dunkirk, on the other hand, is now condemned to return to National, the only other certainty of this 37th day, with the coronation of Toulouse. The Northerners sank at home against Guingamp, beaten 3-1 by the Bretons of En-Avant.
