Toronto Film Critics Association | Aftersun, big winner





(Toronto) Father-Daughter Drama aftersun (Under the sun), by Charlotte Wells, got a big thumbs up from the Toronto Film Critics Association (TFCA), winning four awards, including Best Picture.


The film was also voted Best First Feature and earned Charlotte Wells Best Director and star Paul Mescal Best Actor. Cate Blanchett won Best Actress for her role in Tar.

Among the nominees for Best Picture was Sarah Polley’s adaptation of Miriam Toews’ novel, Women Talking (what they say), and Everything Everywhere All at Once (Everything, everywhere, all at once) by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, nicknamed The Daniels.

Best Animated Feature went to Turning Reddirected by Domee Shi from Toronto, about a Chinese-Canadian girl dealing with puberty in 2002 Toronto.

The TFCA’s signature prize includes a cash award of $100,000 for Best Canadian Feature Film, which will be presented at a gala in Toronto on March 6. Finalists will receive $5,000 each.

The nominees are Brotherdirected by Clement Virgo; Riceboy Sleepsby Anthony Shim and Crimes of the Future (The crimes of the future), by David Cronenberg.
