Many of us are very busy, which can lead to stress, anxiety or exhaustion.
Still, psychotherapist and yoga/meditation instructor Eloise Skinner insists that meditation can be the key to reducing negative emotions, increasing creativity and patience, and helping you gain perspective. Below are some tips for getting started with this practice.
take it easy
Start slowly to avoid turning meditation into a daunting task, as it can be daunting. Eloise Skinner recommends starting with “five minutes a day” and making meditation part of your daily routine.
Make yourself confortable
According to the psychotherapist, a simple practice of meditation should consist of sitting in a comfortable position “without distraction”. Try to find a quiet room where you can fully concentrate on the practice.
Close your eyes and breathe
Once you’re comfortable, “close your eyes or just distract your gaze.” The next step is to focus on your breathing.
“Without trying to control or organize the breath, just observe the in-breath and the out-breath, trying to notice the details of the sensations. For example, you may wonder if your breathing is heavy or light, hot or cold, fast or slow.
You need to focus on your breath for a few rounds and “continually return to your point of focus whenever your mind wanders.”
stretch
Once you feel your meditation is complete, take a moment to stretch your body.
“Quickly stretch your shoulders, then slowly return to your day,” she suggests. “The practice itself can often be difficult, demanding and uncomfortable. But over time, you’ll begin to feel the benefits of regular practice: a more grounded sense of connection to yourself, and perhaps a reduction in feelings of stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. »
