As is the tradition in boxing, the weighing of the competitors took place this Thursday evening, the day before the confrontation in Laval between the Mayennais Jordy Weiss and his opponent, the Venezuelan Ivan Matute. Except that it didn’t go as planned at all since Laval’s opponent was well over the authorized weight. Ivan Matute was weighed at 69kg800 while the limit had been set at 68kg500 between the two protagonists. Jordy Weiss weighed 68kg500 on the scale. That is a difference of 1300 grams between the two boxers.
After long, very long negotiations, and according to information from France Bleu Mayenne, there will be a new weigh-in this Friday for the South American boxer. The weigh-in will take place at 1 p.m. and Ivan Matute must not exceed 69kg800. The man with 30 victories (including 25 by KO) among the pros will therefore have to restrict himself to food to maintain his weight on Thursday evening. Every extra kilo counts for a boxer because it is muscle and therefore more strength. Without this new weighing, Ivan Matute could very well have presented himself in the ring with a weight revolving around 73 or 74 kilos.
We remember that during his last fight in November 2021, the opponent of Jordy Weiss, Aitor Nieto was also above the weight during the official weigh-in. He had to undress completely to go down just below the authorized limit.
The gala evening organized by the Stade Lavallois omnisport section provides for a dozen amateur fights and two professional fights. It’s at Espace Mayenne in Laval. Admission is 15 euros and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
