(Washington) Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson was suspended six games for his high stick in the face of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor.
The NHL Department of Player Safety spoke with Wilson via Zoom. Since it was a video (or in-person) hearing, and not a telephone hearing, the suspension could be for more than five games.
In a video announcing the suspension, the Department of Player Safety said Wilson brought his stick in an “extremely reckless manner” to his opponent’s face.
This is the sixth time Wilson has been suspended since 2017. The forward was suspended seven games for a hit to the head of Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo in 2021.
Wilson was also fined three times.
The latter will lose $161,458 in salary.
