Three-year contract extension for Cam Robinson

(Jacksonville) The Jacksonville Jaguars are unlikely to draft a left tackle with the first-ever selection in the upcoming draft, as The Associated Press has learned they have agreed to a three-year contract extension and just under $54 million. US at Cam Robinson.

Robinson would therefore receive a little less than 18 million per season according to what the source of the Associated Press revealed on condition of anonymity, since the agreement was not disclosed by the parties involved.

The veteran had accepted a qualitative offer of 16.7 million for the next season two weeks ago. This extension allows him to touch a little more.

It also means Jacksonville won’t need to draft Ikem Ekwonu (University of North Carolina), Evan Neal (Alabama) or Charles Cross (Mississippi State University) with the first pick.

The Jaguars should instead choose between two quarterback chasers, either Travon Walker (University of Georgia) or Aidan Hutchinson (University of Michigan). Walker is the bettor’s favorite, according to FanDuel.

Robinson has started 61 games in more than five seasons since being drafted with the 34and overall selection by the Jags in 2017. But he’s not one of the league’s elite left tackles.

That the Jags give him the player-franchise label for a second season in a row came as a surprise, especially given the choice of Walker Little, also a left tackle, with the 45and overall picks last year. Little has been the starter for the last two games of 2021 and has done well.

But Robinson will still be back for a sixth season. Little will battle Jawaan Taylor for the right tackle position.

The Jaguars should still try to improve their offensive line in the draft: center Brandon Linder retired after eight injury-hit seasons, while starting guards Andrew Walker and AJ Cann took advantage of the autonomy to leave the organization.
