With the extreme cold we have and a winter that is also less snowy – remember that snow often serves as insulation – this is not unusual. But each time, we intervene as quickly as possible to repair the breakage and ensure the maintenance of service, ”explained the administrative spokesperson for the City, Philippe Sabourin.

The first breakage was first reported to authorities overnight from Thursday to Friday, on rue Garnier, between rue Jarry and rue Tillemont. An eight-inch pipe was damaged there and a significant amount of water escaped, forcing the closure of traffic.

At the start of the day, however, the situation was under control, with Montreal firefighters and police providing assistance. However, the water pressure has been lowered in some neighboring streets as a preventive measure.

Further south, another break forced the closure of avenue du Mont-Royal, between rue Parthenais and rue de Lorimier. On the way from The Press On Friday, several workers were busy repairing a pipe that appeared to have been completely fractured. Several curious crowded around the security perimeter that was erected on site.

“Our teams are on site to repair everything”, had earlier assured on Twitter the mayor of the borough, Luc Rabouin, by sharing a photo showing there also a significant accumulation of water on the public road.

Almost at the same time, another breakage occurred Friday on Sainte-Catherine Street, between Metcalfe Street and McGill College Avenue. “In all three situations, leaks under control. In general, we route the water to the sump, the time to carry out the repairs,” said Mr. Sabourin on this subject.
