Three Quebec short films on the road to the 2024 Oscar awards

Three films produced in Quebec have made their way onto the list of films preselected for the 2024 Oscar awards.

This is’Oasisby director Justine Martin, selected in the Best Documentary Short Film category, as well asInvincibleby Vincent René-Lortie, and dead catby Annie-Claude Caron and Danick Audet, who were chosen in the Best Short Fiction Film section. Invincible was recently rewarded in this same category at the last Gala Québec Cinéma, whileOasis has already won around twenty awards on the international festival circuit. dead cat was awarded an award at the prestigious Tribeca festival.

Furthermore, another Canadian film, To Kill a Tigerdirected by Toronto-based Nisha Pahuja, is among the shortlisted candidates in the Best Feature Documentary category, along with 14 other contenders.

We will know on January 23 if these films will be among the five officially nominated in their respective categories during the 96e Oscar ceremony, which will be held on March 10.

The documentary Rojekdirected and written by Montrealer Zaynê Akyol and chosen by Telefilm Canada to represent the country in the race for the Oscar for best international film, was not selected by the Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences.
