Three civilians were killed Thursday evening during an attack on a gendarmerie post on the outskirts of Niamey, the capital of Niger, a country prey to jihadist violence, the Niger Press Agency (ANP) reported on Saturday, January 13. ). “Around twenty terrorists arrived camouflaged under the tarpaulins of two vehicles and burst into the post (military policemen) by opening fire with machine guns, shouting Allahu Akbar”said quoting “a safe source”.

According to the agency, three civilians were killed, while two gendarmes and five other civilians were injured. Despite “the strong response of the gendarmes”, the attackers took away a gendarmerie vehicle, and two belonging to individuals. The attack targeted the gendarmerie post in the village of Laoudou, 17 km south of Niamey, on the road leading to W Park, straddling the borders of Niger, Burkina Faso and Benin.

Last week, “civilian victims” were also discovered after air strikes by the Nigerien army against “terrorists”, near the border with Burkina Faso, announced the military regime in power in Niamey since July 26, after overthrowing elected president Mohamed Bazoum.
