Threatening remarks: confinement in two Laval schools

All students and staff members of the Poly-Jeunesse secondary school and those of the École des métiersspeciales de Laval were confined inside their educational establishment for several hours due to “threatening remarks” received in start of the day Wednesday.

A vast police operation was first set in motion a little before 9 a.m. near the Poly-Jeunesse secondary school, located on Sainte-Rose Boulevard, in the Fabreville district.

“Threatening remarks” were allegedly made towards the establishment and the information was quickly relayed to the police.

“There is no question of the presence of an active shooter. We are talking about threats here. We have a lot of police officers on the scene,” said Officer Érika Landry, spokesperson for the Laval police.

A barricaded confinement order was ordered, but this was lifted early in the afternoon.

No arrests have yet been made and a police investigation is ongoing.

Last spring, two confinements took place in the space of just two weeks at this same school, once again due to threatening comments made against the establishment or certain of its students.

Second confinement

During the operation at the Poly-Jeunesse school, Laval police officers were notified of another event of this type, but in another school establishment.

According to the authorities, threatening remarks were received at the Laval School of Trades, located on avenue de Bois-de-Boulogne, in the Pont-Viau district.

The alert was given at around 11:30 a.m. and students and staff members were asked to confine themselves to the premises of the establishment.

At the beginning of the afternoon, several police officers were on site to try to establish whether the threat was justified or not. The lockdown order was finally lifted early this afternoon.

According to our information, there is no link between the threats made against the Poly-Jeunesse school and those targeting the trade school.
