It was Tuesday, in the middle of the afternoon, that the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) said it had received a complaint concerning threats against the high school of Versant, in Gatineau. According to the investigators, the messages concerned, whose holding has not been revealed, “would have been transmitted to a person attending the school, who immediately alerted the police department”.

Investigations then led to the arrest of a teenager last night, considered a suspect. The young man, who attends the Versant school, was then met by investigators, before being released on a promise to appear and conditions to be respected. Charges should be brought against him soon, in the Youth Chamber.

The Gatineau police also confirm that they have started a second investigation following the filing of another complaint on Tuesday, in connection with threatening remarks against the Island high school. No suspects have yet been arrested, but the investigation is continuing.

If the two events may seem “similar”, the SPVG says “treat these files separately since the elements of the investigation collected so far do not allow to make links between them”.

“These cases are taken very seriously. […] The SPVG understands that such threats can cause concern in the general population, but more specifically among people attending the various schools in Gatineau, whether their respective establishment has been targeted by the threats or not. authorities.

Thus, as a preventive measure and to reassure the population, the police force claims to have deployed “additional staff around the establishments targeted by the threatening remarks”, in addition to paying “particular attention to all places of education”. in the territory of Gatineau.

Moreover, anyone with relevant information in connection with these two files is invited to contact the Gatineau police as soon as possible, by dialing 819-243-4636, option 5. You can be assured of confidential treatment.
