While the first round of the legislative elections will take place on 12th June next, certain deputies from the presidential majority, such as Frédérique Tuffnell and Florence Granjus, have chosen to throw in the towel.
If for many candidates the desire is very strong to become deputies, some have made an important choice since they have decided not to run again. Disappointed at not having been able to carry out the actions they wanted to take, some deputies simply decided to give up. “The deputies lost their individuality at one point, so yes, I experienced it”, declares Frédérique Tuffnell, former deputy of the presidential majority. Its constituents are divided on the fact that it does not represent itself.
Like Frédérique Tuffnell, elected members of Renaissance, formerly La République en Marche, have decided not to run again. In all, they are 34 not to run for another term in the National Assembly. Florence Granjus, also a member of the majority elected in 2017, knew from the start that she only wanted to serve one term. Her experience in the Assembly did not change her mind. She declares, bitterly: “I don’t believe that when you come from civil society (…) you can always agree with everything that is presented.”
