Thomas Dutronc does not know exactly how many times he came to Jazz in Marciac, but he remembers very well having started there: “I played at the festival off, I started by playing in the village square”, he says. This time, he is one of the headliners of this 45th edition which notably programmed Norah Jones, Gregory Porter, Ben Harper and Gilberto Gil.

Thomas Dutronc returns to Marciac with a new project that excites him: a guitar trio. He is surrounded by two gypsy jazz virtuosos: the faithful Rocky Gresset and Stochelo Rosenberg. “The trio formula is very flexible, it allows us a lot of freedomexplains Thomas Dutronc who is full of praise for his two companions: There are plenty of people who play this music very well, but they two are the best, they have a little something extra that is inexplicable. I’m really on a little cloud, on a red carpet when they accompany me.”

A very varied repertoire

The trio, joined by bassist Thomas Bramerie, tests on stage some new songs by Thomas Dutronc (the singer is currently working on a forthcoming album), and alternates covers, jazz pieces and themes by Django Reinhardt. “I always try that there are surprises, that we never settle into weariness during the concert”emphasizes Thomas Dutronc.

The trio Dutronc, Rosenberg, Gresset will be on the Jazz in Marciac stage on July 31, but the group which is currently on tour will also play on July 27 in Châteauneuf-du-Faou, and on August 5 at La Petite-Pierre, at the Au Grès du Jazz festival.
