The appointment of Elisabeth Borne at Matignon gives food for thought to opponents of Emmanuel Macron. Unsurprisingly, the fact that the President of the Republic appoints the former Minister of Labour, Prime Minister, did not fail to make the left, like the right, and all the political parties react. It would, in any case, never have satisfied his rivals, that he appoint Jean-Luc Mélenchon, or even Marine Le Pen to “assist” him during his second five-year term. Some could, however, see the positive and note the fact that she becomes only the second woman to hold this position since Edith Cresson from 1991 to 1992 under the Fifth Republic.
But will the former Minister of Labor manage to stay longer at Matignon than his predecessor? Many hope not among the opponents and in particular Noé Gauchard who will “confront” him next June during the next legislative elections. Since the defeat in the first round of the 2022 presidential election, the entire left and in particular Jean-Luc Mélenchon have constantly reminded us that the legislative elections can put a spoke in Emmanuel Macron’s wheels and impose cohabitation on him. .
Early retirement
This is why the candidate of Nupes in Calvados wanted to announce the color at the microphone of 20 minutes. “To face the Prime Minister is a beautiful symbol, but it does not change anything about the substance of our campaign, our proposals remain the same”he assured at first before adding: “We continue to defend a project in complete opposition to that of Emmanuel Macron”.
Noé Cuachard goes even further by releasing a statement that says a lot about his state of mind and that of Emmanuel Macron’s opponents in general: “We therefore want to retire its Prime Minister in June, for her term to be as short as possible. Because Élisabeth Borne embodies the worst of the last five years of Macronism: the progressive privatization of the RATP, the SNCF reform, climate inaction and terrible unemployment insurance. It’s also the worst of the next five years, with retirement at 65.”. The campaign for the legislative elections seems well and truly launched.
