“This is the 4th cancellation in a year”, annoys Catherine Arenou, of the Association of City and Suburbs Mayors

The Interministerial Committee of Cities, initially scheduled for next week, has been postponed until the end of October. A National Council for “post-riot” refoundation will, however, be held this Thursday. “We can imagine that it is necessary, but it does not have the same objective,” assures Catherine Arenou.

“This cancellation of the Interministerial Committee of Cities, which we have been demanding since November 2022, is the 4th cancellation in one year”was annoyed Thursday October 5 on franceinfo Catherine Arenou, the mayor of Chanteloup-les-Vignes, in Yvelines and first vice-president of the Association of City and Suburb Mayors, while the Interministerial Committee of Cities was to take place on Monday October 9, but it was postponed.

“All the mayors’ associations have called on the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister five times since November 2022 to tell them that the situation in our neighborhoods is getting worse, that we feel tensions, that we must intervene before it is too late and have a real policy of scope. We have not been listened to”.

While the Interministerial Committee of Cities was “prepared since the beginning of September with the services of Matignon and the Ministry of the City”, it is postponed and will be held by the end of October. Instead, the government decided to hold a National Refoundation Council “post-riots”. “We can imagine that it is necessary, but it does not have the same objective”, regretted Catherine Arenou. Many issues had to be addressed during the Interministerial Committee of Cities, both in terms of housing, schools and discrimination.
