“Short occupations” residence permit, OQTF, asylum… The Ministers of the Interior and Labor unveiled their proposals for their future immigration bill on Wednesday, November 2, whose examination is scheduled for early 2023 Gérald Darmanin and Olivier Dussopt made it to the front page of the newspaper The worlde, but not only.
>> Immigration bill: “short-term occupations” residence permit, OQTF, asylum… What are the avenues on the government’s table?
According to information from franceinfo, the two ministers sent a letter to all the group presidents of the National Assembly and the Senate, i.e. 18 letters in total, including to Marine Le Pen as president of the National Rally group at the ‘Assembly. In this letter, which we have obtained, the two ministers detail their proposals but also agree all future recipients “interact with them“.
Concretely, this means that they hope to obtain a consensus on this text, a form of “dredge” assumed in all directions: a “labor immigration” section aimed at Republicans, another more firm, on asylum in particular , which could please the National Rally, and, finally, a whole component of integration and regularization of foreign workers for the attention of the left.
In the columns of WorldGérald Darmanin even goes so far as to quote… Karl Marx to denounce a “reserve army“, which some bosses find in irregular workers.”It’s a nice shot”, acknowledged Wednesday, November 2 a left-wing parliamentarian who did not expect such early proposals. The text must, in fact, arrive in the Council of Ministers in January, then in the Senate for a first reading. This same president of the left group did not expect either this letter signed by the handwritten and friendly pen of the two men and in particular of Olivier Dussopt who sat, let us recall, in the PS before joining the government.
Moreover, this Darmanin – Dussopt coupling was not improvised: the first clearly comes from the right and the second wants to embody the left wing of the government. “There’s a story to tellr”, thus greedily slipped a ministerial adviser.
As for the first reactions after this invitation to a meeting with the ministers, they are very diverse. Thus, if certain group presidents slip that they have not yet consulted this letter, on the bill, the first reactions to the microphones were not very favorable. Far from it… But, behind the scenes, things were different: “We cannot sweep these proposals at the risk of appearing disconnectedé”, confided a left-wing deputy. Same state of mind of openness among leading LR parliamentarians, but who fear a political pitfall. And they are not necessarily wrong: “It’s her we’re targeting“, recognizes a government source to try to concretize this “alliance”, which Emmanuel Macron now openly wishes with the right.
