She gave up on the NRJ Music Awards. This Saturday, November 11, 2023, the day after the chaotic 25th NMA ceremony, public.fr exclusively reveals to you the name of an international celebrity who decided to definitively boycott the ceremony in which she participated for the last time in 2013… That evening, TF1 and NRJ celebrated the 15th ceremony, and were able to count on many stars: Stromae had performed an exceptional opening, which remained in the memory of all fans of the program, and Katy Perry, Will.i.am, James Arthur, Birdy, One Direction and Alex Hepburn followed one another on stage, alongside many other French-speaking artists, such as Emmanuel Moire, Tal, Alizée, Keen’V and Christophe Maé.
Unfortunately for TF1, this ceremony left a bitter taste for Katy Perry, who decided to draw a line under the latter. Her reasons are laudable: throughout the ceremony, the singer was the victim of numerous hiccups, and constantly faced production errors, which humiliated her in front of the whole of France. Coming to offer her title Roar on stage, the singer was the victim of a soundtrack that was played much too early, and her failed playback was cut off by Nikos live. On stage, the host came to apologize, but the singer seemed somewhat uncomfortable: “Good evening Katy Perry, the soundtrack started a little late, there was a little slip, but since we’re live (…) can we start again?”
Humiliated by Rihanna
This humiliation was not the first that Katy Perry had experienced at the NRJ Music Awards. Arriving in 2009, it was the target of a major technical problem, and received an Award which was in no way awarded to him. Nominated in the “Best international song of the year” category, the Award was presented to her by Kamel Ouali, who announced her as the big winner. The reality was quite different, since it was actually Rihanna… The production, the host and the presenter did not realize it until much later, since they let Katy Perry go on stage, and thank her fans…The issue was resolved behind the scenes, and Nikos revealed live that Katy Perry returned her trophyand that the latter was now in the hands of Rihanna.
If Katy Perry had managed to forgive the 2009 dump, that of 2013 was the last straw. Ten years later, the star has forgotten nothing, and does not intend to return to the NRJ Music Awards one day. The ceremony, which has been widely criticized for several years, is facing a massive boycott from international stars, more and more of whom are refusing to come to Cannes. This Friday, November 10, some answered the call: Mika, Loreen, Maneskin, Benson Boone, Paul Russell and Puff Daddy, who appeared on video, and received an Honorary Award…
