A 9-year-old girl died of her injuries Tuesday, July 30, the day after a knife attack at a dance class in Southport (United Kingdom), Merseyside police announced. Two other girls, aged 6 and 7, were killed in the attack, according to investigators. Eight other children are injured, five of whom are in critical condition, and two adults are also in critical condition.
Shortly after the attack on Monday, police said they had arrested a man and seized a knife. An official said that a “17 year old man” had been taken into custody. She added that she ruled out a terrorist motive at this stage, considering that the suspect’s motivations remained “uncertain” as is.
The attack happened just before midday on Monday at a dance school in the northwest of England, about 20 kilometres north of Liverpool. “The children were attending a Taylor Swift-themed event at a dance school when the assailant, armed with a knife, entered the building and began [les] attack inside”Merseyside Police detailed. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport continues to overwhelm me and I am just completely shocked”the singer reacted on Instagram on Tuesday.
