12 million French people do not yet know who they are going to vote for, according to opinion polls. In doing so, they could play a major role in the outcome of the 2022 presidential election.

On April 10, the first round of the presidential election will be held. Friday April 1, 37% of voters still do not know who they are going to vote for. These undecided are people who are sure to vote, but who can change their minds. A citizen thus hesitates between Yannick Jadot (EELV) and Emmanuel Macron (LREM). Another says to leave a few more days to consult the programs. Nearly 6 out of 10 voters of Yannick Jadot, Anne Hidalgo (PS) and Fabien Roussel (PCF) are undecided.

The undecided are more numerous than in 2017. “They can clearly be a game changer because in reality, the undecided are the ones who create the dynamics”, analyzes Benjamin Morel, political scientist. The abstentionists and undecided had already played a major role during the presidential election of 2002, where Jean-Marie Le Pen had qualified in the second round.
