The Wrath of the Clouds, Marissa Nadler

After two albums in 2021, the prolific Marissa Nadler is already back. Our expectations for this EP recorded in the wake of recent releases were moderate, but the American musician still has some pretty nuggets in store. It starts with Guns on the Sundeck, a mesmerizing seven-minute haunted folk ballad on which she gives voice to the wreckage of the Queen Mary : “ “I miss the ocean”, she said /“It’s nice in the sun, but I need a break from the dead people” ” : magnificent. The drawling melancholy of her ethereal voice doubled by her agile 12-string guitar playing imprints a strong signature on the two covers she offers herself. Saunders Ferry Lane by country singer Sammi Smith fits her like a glove. Seabird by the Alessi brothers closes the album on a lighter indie-pop note. Fans of Lana Del Rey, Hope Sandoval, Kandle, if you have not yet discovered the music of this heiress of Leonard Cohen and Vashti Bunyan, here is a key to enter.
