The Wines of Nantes: Harvest in Loire-Atlantique

The Nantes vineyard is nearly 8000 Ha, dominated by Muscadet. The two other appellations, the Gros-Plant and less known, the Coteaux d’Ancenis which offer dry and mellow whites, with the Malvoisie, but also reds and rosés. Today the Nantes winegrowers complete their offer with IGP and Vins de France… An average year is 400,000 Hl of Muscadet… For this 2022 vintage, we hope between 250,000 and 300,000 Hl of Muscadet, which will leave for 20% export, mainly to England, Belgium, Japan… The North American market is growing strongly and Les Vins de Nantes are more and more present on the most prestigious starred tables… At the Domaine de l’Écu, the harvest end, with the harvest of the reds, like everywhere else in the Nantes vineyards… At the Domaine de l’Écu, we have been organic for more than 40 years and we harvest by hand. In the Nantes vineyard, just under 20% of production is organic. This is the national average, but we are proud of this figure, because organic production in our oceanic climate requires more work and care than in the south where sun and wind protect the vines from humidity and its diseases… The number of farms, in organic conversion, is constantly increasing, not to mention that many areas are in sustainable agriculture, a dynamic that suggests that in less than 15 years the wines of Nantes will be mainly organic!

The Nantes wines are harvested, in “Fier d’Ici”, every day at 4:45 p.m. and on weekends between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., on France Bleu Loire Océan.
