Double surprise at The voice, Sunday evening, back for a tenth season on TVA. First, none of the empire’s future stars spoke about their aggressive cancer, their mother’s suicide or the sudden death of their pet ferret.
A very relaxing and saving break from drama and tears, thank you.
Then it was a friendly metalhead, with long hair and everything, who was the most charming of this interesting two-hour show. Indeed, Guillaume Lessard, 24 years old, from Laval, blew away the four coaches with his recovery of the piece A Touch of Evil by Judas Priest.
He is excellent, this Guillaume, alias GuiGui, singer of the group Les Chatons, who won the 29e edition of My first Place des Arts, in the fall of 2022. Guillaume Lessard, who opted for the France D’Amour team, is better and more accessible than the astonishing Louis-Paul Gauvreau, another screaming metal fan that Isabelle Boulay coached to the semi-finals in 2017.
More seasons of The voice accumulate, the less “beginners” – those who have no professional experience – succeed in seducing the four coaches of the popular TVA talent show. Again on Sunday, several of the competitors did not attend their first musical barbecue, far from it.
The last to take the stage, Norah Lapointe, 19, is the daughter of chorister Caroline Riverin, a founding member of the Québec Issime troupe. His father-in-law, Marc-André Fortin, won Star Academy in 2005. That said, Norah Lapointe, a regular on the show Decemberdemonstrated magnificent restraint and mastery over There is no point running by Karim Ouellet. And Corneille added a star recruit to his roster.
The candidate who made the split After River Deep Mountain HighAnik St-Pierre, 51, progressed to the quarter-finals of The Voicein France, in spring 2021, and has already opened for Mario Pelchat.
The young dad, Jonathan Houde, 23, from Thetford Mines, is part of the quartet Boy Band Story, which covers the hits of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and The New Kids on the Block. He burst into tears after rereading When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars.
And when the champion of The Junior voice in 2016, Charles Kardos, 20 years old, settled back at the piano, it felt like an easy victory. Surprisingly, no chairs swiveled, although this festive number was superior to many others that have been praised.
The two new coaches of this 10e edition, France D’Amour and Roxane Bruneau, who replace Marc Dupré and Marjo, very quickly press their red button. Very often, the two women turned around almost at the same time, several seconds before Mario Pelchat and Corneille, who thought – and listened – longer.
France D’Amour is super relevant when she talks about vocal technique, “transition D”, range or falsetto. This is also what convinced Maude Cyr-Deschênes, 24, to join the D’Amour team.
Roxane Bruneau did pretty well in the big leagues. She did not pretend to have the same advanced knowledge as her three comrades. She did things her way and picked up little bits of voice, which she hid in the pockets of her bird-patterned jacket.
Farewell, sugar daddy !
Strong episode full of twists and turns Big Brother CelebritiesSunday evening, which started with a fairly predictable eviction, that of the TikToker Pascale de Blois.
In one week, the chaotic energy and bouts of bacon of this 19-year-old content creator caused her accelerated fall and the dissolution of her Bimbos alliance with YouTuber Gabrielle Marion. We all felt like shouting, in our living rooms, “but manage yourself, Pascale, let’s see”.
Gabrielle, now teamed with Paralympic athlete Frédérique Turgeon, was the only one to vote to keep Pascale in the house-studio, a strategic decision to look good and (perhaps) pocket her rivalfriend’s chips. Unfortunately for Gabrielle, Pascale’s box contained nothing. Whoops.
The chain reaction, which led to the elimination of Patsy Gallant, was tasty and punctuated by hyper dramatic moments. Once again, Barbada played its cards strangely. The drag queen spent her management week defending Patsy Gallant and refusing to put her in danger.
Then, when the time came to protect Patsy, Barbada backed down, deeming the 75-year-old disco queen too unpredictable (which isn’t wrong, mind you).
Result: neither Patsy Gallant nor Dave Morgan, known as Captain Morgan, were rescued and they had to confront each other in a transparent cabin, which resembled the one in which Jean Airoldi locked his victims in the late series How old do you give me?.
Comedian Dave Morgan, who won points, blamed himself for having “beat a 75-year-old lady that everyone adored”. But the blame lies with Barbada, and only Barbada. Screenwriter Daniel Savoie, a member of the same alliance as Barbada and Patsy Gallant, made it clear to the queen of the story that her strategy was rotten. The masks fall and the filters disappear. I adore.
Yes, Patsy Gallant was entertaining and inspiring when she first entered reality TV. But she was not a formidable participant (understatement, here) nor really invested. His departure doesn’t sadden me that much.
Obviously, there is no doctor or nurse in the distribution of Big Brother Celebrities. Because no one has managed, in two weeks, to “take the pulse of the house”. And we agree that “taking the pulse of the house”, the candidates’ favorite phrase, seems vital in this fourth season.
