The emblematic Vienne jazz festival (Isère) is back in service for its 42nd edition which starts on Wednesday June 28. Each year for 15 days, the festival offers around 200 concerts, three-quarters of which are free and should welcome around 200,000 festival-goers.
And to launch the festival, make way for young people! In fact, school children in the region prepared for months to perform a singing performance on the main stage of the ancient theatre. The little choristers were accompanied by the jazz singer, Marion Rampal as well as by professional musicians.
An audience of 4,000 children
Facing them, an audience of 4,000 children from the Viennese region is seated in the stands of the ancient theatre. The place, built in the 1st century, is known for the singular acoustics it offers to the public and to artists.
For musician Marion Rampal, performing this concert with children and for children is a very exciting challenge: “It’s an electric atmosphere to have 4,000 kids screaming, it’s a very spontaneous, very honest audience. There are no half measures, that’s what’s great, you can confront your music and your universe with that atmosphere, that spirit.”
For these new budding artists, the experience is repeated a second time, again in front of 4,000 young spectators. Then, the young singers will give way to French and international artists programmed for the festival. The complete program can be found on the festival website.
