In the countryside, in the south of the United Kingdom, young Ukrainians are training. They are willing to go fight, but they have to be trained first. “Before the Russian invasion, I was just a simple civilian, like so many others. But with this war, I couldn’t go on living like this,” explains a rookie.
Military training, which lasts five weeks, is provided by British officers, supported by Ukrainian officers. Since June, nearly 6,000 Ukrainians have followed her. The British Ministry of Defense has promised kyiv to train nearly 20,000 soldiers. “We mainly study marksmanship, weapons handling, urban warfare, trench warfare, and first aid,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Kempley Buchan-Smith, commander of the British 5th Battalion.
