Handcuffed, dressed in jeans and a jacket, Auradou and Jégou arrived in Mendoza after more than 1,000 km from Buenos Aires in two police 4x4s. Under the flashes of photographers, the two vehicles entered under heavy protection into the grounds of the transit penitentiary unit, where the players of the French XV spent the night from Thursday to Friday.

For their lawyer Rafael Cuneo Libarona, the priority today is to obtain house arrest. “They can live very well here, a kilometer away, with a tutorhe argues. They are not going to escape because their passports were left with the justice system, because they have no money, because they do not speak Spanish, because everyone can recognize them because they are very tall. So we want to obtain a less invasive restriction measure than prison by putting them in a house in Mendoza.”

“This is the first rape case of my career. I accepted it because I trust them.”

Today, the French will be formally indicted and will have to undergo a DNA test, a psychiatric evaluation, as well as medical and toxicological examinations. The prosecutor will decide in ten days whether they will be granted house arrest or incarcerated.
