After the attack on Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, three of the alleged perpetrators were placed in pre-trial detention. Their trial has been postponed until June 5.

The three men suspected of assaulting Brigitte Macron’s grand-nephew, Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, on Monday May 15, will have to await their trial in prison. They were remanded in custody. Aged 20 to 34, they are described by the defense as marginal, losing their bearings. “It’s anything but political activists”notes Me. Marc Blondel, the lawyer for one of the defendants, who describes them as “young adults a little dented”, with “psychological difficulties”.

Already sentenced for violence and assault

The three defendants had already been convicted of violence and assault. For a man with them at the time, this is not an assault. “There were just trash cans placed, just a bag thrown, (…) after it was Jean-Baptiste Trogneux who came out, who tackled my colleague to the ground”, he confides. A version refuted by Jean-Baptiste Trogneux’s lawyer, who explains that the latter sought to “defend yourself, and defend your store window”. The shop in front of which the assault took place will now be monitored by a security officer during closing hours.
