At Clermont-Ferrand hospital, in Puy-de-Dôme, many people who are victims of domestic violence have their injuries noticed, often after having been close to death.

It is often after too much violence that women from the Clermont-Ferrand region (Puy-de-Dôme) go to the town hospital, in order to have their injuries, which are very often important, to be observed. “One of the most common injuries is strangulation”, explains Dr. Charlotte Ayzac, emergency physician. Visible marks that indicate the trauma experienced. The hospital is also a key place, where victims often go to express themselves for the first time.

The impact of violence on the mental and physical health of victims is monitored. Photographs are also taken, in order to constitute a file. Most victims saw the violence progress from verbal to physical, with the situation worsening over time. Domestic violence affects all categories of the population.
