In Fursac in the Creuse, it is possible to buy land at one euro per square meter. The town hall launched the operation to attract new residents.
That morning, the Cordon family drove five hours from Corrèze. Welcomed by the mayor, she comes to visit his land. Kevin, Sandy and their six children were chosen from 100 applications to come and live Fursac (VSreuse). Sur their land of 876 square meters, they imagine their new life. The municipality has put eight plots up for sale at just one euro per square meter.
A give-and-take deal
Seeing the ad, the family jumped at the chance. “It’s a chance, for us as a large family, it’s a chance”, says the father of the family. The only constraint is that owners must build their house within two years and make it their primary residence. For the mayor, the challenge is to rejuvenate the population. “People are going to run theeconomy, pay a property tax. And so, all this reinjects money into all services”explains Olivier Mouveroux.
