The book of condolences has been available at the town hall since Monday. The village of Abjat-sur-Bandiat, in Périgord Vert, has decided to open a register to allow its inhabitants to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8. Since the announcement of his death, the emotion is strong, to the Dordogne. Many Britons are settled in the departmentand in particular in Abjat-sur-Bandiat.

The Brits in the village are not necessarily very pro-monarchy but they were attached to the Queen

“The English community wanted to set up this book of condolence, explains Mayor XXX. It is an active community in the commune. The British in the village are not necessarily very pro-monarchy but they were attached to the queen, she was very symbolic and important to them. Offering them the opportunity to have a condolence book is positive for them.”

Several residents have already started to write in the register according to the mayor, not necessarily only British. The book will remain accessible until the day of the funeral, September 19. Then all messages will be sent to the UK Embassy in France.
