For anyone who loves maple sweets, spring is usually associated with sugaring off season. However, for lovers of gory, this season rhymes with a whole different kind of syrup, carmine this one. Indeed, from May 24 to 27 in Montreal, the Cabane à sang festival offers four programs of colorful horror and science fiction short films… although the dominant shade remains deep red.
“A non-profit organization, Cabane à Sang is committed to disseminating, promoting and creating opportunities for the creation of genre cinema in Quebec while bringing back the supercharged atmosphere of cinema. grind housewhere offbeat screenings, beers and laughter meet”, said the organization.
Sign of an undeniable enthusiasm for this cinema often taken from the top – wrongly, we can never insist enough – the event founded in 2017 is sold out for its four evenings.
Which evenings are available under different themes with evocative names. The opening program of May 24, Sci’High, is thus dedicated to science fiction (in Madame Smith). Note that Internet users will be able to see the retransmission on the Facebook page of Cabane à sang.
May 25, Keep it Weird will bring together the strangest courts, we promise (at Le Ste-Cath bistro). The day after, Party Poopers Spectacular will show psychotronic creations of less than 5 minutes filmed with a budget of less than 200 dollars (at the Cinémathèque). Bloody inventiveness guaranteed.
Finally, on May 27, the festival will conclude with the evening Mixed meatsthe “traditional hash of dripping horror and dubious trash”, to use the formula of the programmers (at Le Ste-Cath bistro).
In total, nearly 70 short films will be presented from a myriad of countries. Thus, in addition to Quebec productions, there are some from Finland, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, France and Belgium, in particular.
To stay in food metaphors, this should fill a corner while waiting for the Fantasia festival in two months.
