The Texas Rangers win their first World Series

(Phoenix) The Texas Rangers won their first ever World Series by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 on Wednesday in Game 5.

A Mitch Garver single that drove Corey Seager to the plate provided the winning run in the seventh inning.

Jonah Heim allowed Josh Jung and Nathaniel Lowe to cross the plate with a single in the ninth. Marcus Semien’s two-run homer put the finishing touches on the victory moments later.

Josh Sborz then made the final outs to end the major league baseball season.

Seager hit the ground running in the seventh with his team’s first hit. Until then, the Diamondbacks’ Zac Gallen was heading into a scoreless, hitless game.

Gallen finished his season with a one-run, three-hit, one-walk performance in six 1/3 innings. The National League Cy Young Award candidate also struck out six batters.

In the other clan, Nathan Eovaldi allowed nine batters to hit the trails, but he limited the damage by not allowing any runs.

The starter loaded the bases in the fifth with walks allowed to Ketel Marte and Tommy Pham as well as a single to Christian Walker. However, he ended the threat by forcing Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to hit a grounder to shortstop.

Eovaldi worked the mound for six innings, allowing four safe hits and five free passes.

The Rangers were also the champions of the American in 2010 and 2011, before losing in the World Series against the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals.
